First-time author Uhl refers to tea as a "cultural icon," and his book supports that notion. Broken into three parts (Tea, Technique, and Pairings & Cocktails), this title teaches an array of tea-related facts, from analyzing water to selecting the proper vessel to preparing the most satisfying cup. Teas with origins in multiple countries are examined. In addition to addressing the chemical composition of the beverage, Uhl also explores its position in diverse communities. With a special eye on drinks, the author provides recipes that blend teas and liquors into delectable cocktails. The narrative is complemented by exquisite images and an elegant layout. VERDICT Classic, sophisticated, and refined, this work is essential for any tea lover's collection.--Kristen Droesch, Library Journal
